The Sacred is Already Here. Are You Ready to See It?

The Return to Sacred Living – Reclaiming Ritual, Nature, and Spiritual Health

In today’s world of endless distractions and demands, the soul is quietly longing for something older, slower, and truer.

In this reflection from Dr. Peter Sousa and the Church of New Enchantment, we explore the timeless call to Sacred Living—a way of being that honors spirit through everyday life, weaving ritual, nature, and spiritual care back into the center of existence.

Across every tradition, sacredness was never meant to be reserved for special occasions.

It was meant to be lived.

As the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas teaches,

“The Kingdom is spread out upon the earth, but people do not see it.”

Ancient peoples honored the Earth as alive, offering gratitude for its gifts and aligning their lives with the natural rhythms of sun, moon, and seasons.

In Indigenous traditions, the land itself is regarded as family.

In the Rig Veda of Hinduism, the Earth is called “Mother of All,” a source of nourishment and spiritual strength.

The Bible echoes this in Psalm 24, declaring,

“The Earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.”

To live sacredly is to reclaim that knowing.

This reflection explores simple ways to return to sacred living:

  • Restoring Ritual: from lighting candles with intention to creating home altars that remind us of what we hold sacred.

  • Reconnecting with Nature: honoring the Earth as a living being, drawing healing and wisdom from her presence, remembering the Buddhist teaching that the Earth itself bore witness to the Buddha’s enlightenment.

  • Nourishing the Spirit through the Body: tending to ourselves with foods, herbs, and movements that honor the body as a temple, as taught in 1 Corinthians 6:19—“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you?”

Dr. Peter Sousa also shares practical tools such as working with sacred herbs like holy basil for emotional balance, rosemary for clarity, and frankincense for spiritual connection.

These ancient plant medicines have been revered for centuries in systems like Ayurveda, Mediterranean ritual practices, and Christian traditions of anointing and prayer.

The reflection concludes with an invitation:

You are not separate from the sacred.

You are part of it.

In every breath, in every meal, in every word of kindness, the Divine is waiting to be remembered.
